Welcome to AIM

Shelagh is an educational consultant specialising in dyslexia and dyscalculia. She is an associate member of the British Dyslexia Association and professional member of PATOSS.

Following a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry Shelagh trained as a secondary school Chemistry teacher. Her later experience in primary school inspired her to obtain a Post graduate certificate with AMBDA in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia).

This lead to three years of invaluable experience working for Dyslexia Action on various projects, as a specialist teacher and assessor.

AIM (SpLD) was founded following successful provision of private support to children within schools in Leeds and Bradford. AIM (SpLD) provides specialist Assessment, Intervention and Mentoring to individuals and schools within the North/West Yorkshire borders.

SpLD is an umbrella term used for specific learning difficulties, with a neurological basis, that effect particular aspects of learning. Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, Dyspraxia and ADD (ADHD) are all classed as SpLD’s. It is not unusual for more than one of these to co-exist with others.

AIM offer the following assessments:

  • Key Stage 1 Screener
  • Irlen® screening
  • Full Assessment (dyslexia)
  • Maths Learning Profile
  • Full Assessment (dyscalculia)

Learning is greatly enhanced when information ‘input’ uses more than one sense simultaneously; say it, hear it, do it and see it.

This is particularly important for individuals with a SpLD.

Mentoring for parents is available upon request. Many parents find this valuable for:
 Building stronger working relationships with school
 Working closely with school to develop an individual education/learning plan
